Abby Lai

AdLife Academy Founder

Abby Lai is a seasoned homeschooler, wife, and mother of two outstanding young men.  She founded Home School Coaches in 2012 to provide her children with the best possible homeschool education. Home School Coaches offers over 100 highly qualified instructors that are passionate about what they teach plus share a love for teaching. In 2020, Abby co-founded Advanced Life Education, the parent company of AdLife Academy, to further her mission of supporting homeschooling parents in achieving their educational goals for their children. Abby has a degree in Business Administration from Cal Poly Pomona and a Masters in Public Health degree from the University of Southern California. When at rest, Abby enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, frequenting coffee shops, and gardening.

Lupe Valerio

AdLife Academy Director

With twenty years of experience supervising successful community programs, Lupe Valerio offers her organizational, leadership and management skills to support the families and students of AdLife Academy. Lupe has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology along with a Masters in Leadership and Organizational Studies from Azusa Pacific University.  Lupe is passionate about supporting the positive development of young people by creating safe environments that foster positive communication, opportunities for leadership, and a vast array of educational experiences.  In her spare time, Lupe enjoys creating unforgettable memories with with her nine beloved grandkids,  sharing her faith through leading Bible studies, and exploring new places with close friends.

Sheila Jakobsen

Private Satellite Program Director

Sheila Jakobsen is a passionate and accomplished credentialed educator with over fifteen years of experience guiding students and parents in both the public, private, and homeschool setting. She holds a Master's Degree in Education and BCLAD certification. Sheila believes in creating educational environments that fosters personal growth and discovery for her students. Her educational philosophy is based on the idea that every child is unique and can succeed. She is committed to helping students overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. Sheila enjoys exploring new places, staying active, and unwinding with board games and a good book. Her approach to teaching is characterized by compassion, patience, and respect for each student's individual needs and abilities. She is a valuable asset to any learning community.

Rejoice Griffis

Head Coach - Pasadena

Rejoice Griffis is a former Parks & Recreation professional with over eight years of experience in providing enjoyable and stimulating experiences that enhance physical, mental, and social well-being within all areas of a community, while also ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. She is also currently obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with the hopes to obtain a Master’s in Counseling Psychology. Throughout her customer service and recreation career, Rejoice learned how to effectively communicate with people from all walks of life. This has helped her build strong relationships with customers and colleagues alike, and she is excited to continue this approach at AdLife Academy. 

Judy Sedano

Early Elementary Instructor & Assistant Coach - Pasadena

Judy, a devoted mother and seasoned professional with over 13 years of experience nurturing young minds, seamlessly blends creativity, community engagement, and education advocacy. Her journey began at 17, teaching children’s church. With a graphic design and business background, she led ‘Paint N’ Play Art Studio,' organizing events and empowering local artists. Notably, Judy serves on the Duarte Unified School District District Advisory Committee, contributing to education initiatives. Today, she actively participates on her church board, teaching children’s church and youth programs. Judy’s commitment extends to organizing clothing drives, supporting food banks, and spearheading school initiatives - providing crucial support to those in need. In her current role as an Early Elementary Instructor and Assistant Coach at AdLife Academy, Judy channels her creativity to inspire the next generation. Her multifaceted roles reflect a rich blend of experience, creativity, and unwavering commitment to both education and community service.

Sara Marsh

Middle School Coach - Pasadena

Sara is Midwest born and raised, but a Californian at heart. She comes to Adlife Academy with over 20 years experience working with children.  She currently spends her time as a child’s rights advocate who works with children and families in difficult and challenging places. Her work has given her extensive knowledge of the child welfare system as well as parenting struggles and positive solutions.  She has extensive training and coaching working with children from traumatic backgrounds through her work as a foster parent with Los Angeles County.   It is a joy for Sara to use her lived experience to further the educational and emotional health of the students at Adlife Academy.

Hailey Schaefer

Head Coach - Pomona

Hailey graduated from Azusa Pacific University in 2022 with a BA in Political Science. Currently, Hailey is working on her MA in American History and Government from Ashland University as well as her Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Sciences from Biola University. Hailey has been working as a tutor since 2020. During the last three years she has worked with grades Pre-K to 12th and a wide variety of subjects. She loves to connect with her students and find ways to incorporate their interests into learning. She is very patient, accommodating, and commutative, three qualities that yield positive results with students and parents. Whether it is creating fun ways to memorize letter sounds or assisting in researching for a presentation, Hailey is excited to guide students through the learning process. In addition to ELA, Hailey also has assisted students with mathematics from Pre-K to 8th grade. Regardless of subject or learning level, Hailey strives to show students that education is a blessing not a burden. 

Riley Mackie

Assistant Coach - Pomona

Riley is a homeschool graduate and later graduated in 2021 from The Master's University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Business. She has taught voice lessons for 6 years and has been in hundreds of musicals, concerts, recitals, and performances all over the country, including places like Washington DC and Carnegie hall. She is passionate about teaching & truly loves to encourage vocalists to hone in on their unique talent and be the best that they can be.

Victoria Collett

Writing, Science, History, Drama

Victoria Collett received her teaching credential from Cal Poly University in Pomona and her Master's Degree from Cal State University in Fullerton, California. She has many years of teaching experience from 4th and 5th grade classroom instruction in Ontario Montclair School District before moving on to Middle School where she provided instruction to grades 6-8 and finally serving as an Administrator managing State and Federal District requirements for 6 schools. She has taught many exciting classes including the Gifted and Talented (GATE) Instruction and Outdoor Education Program culminating with a week in the Grand Canyon! She is honored to service young people and their families and is excited to work with you.

Eric Lin

Robotics, Coding, Math

Eric Lin, a graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physics. During his time at UCLA, Eric's passion for physics was evident not only in his academic pursuits but also in his engagement in various teaching internships and opportunities that primarily focused on STEM education. He quickly learned that he had a passion for teaching and for the last few years, Eric has been teaching highly engaging robotics classes for kinder to twelfth grade that incorporate programming, 3D design, and circuitry. Eric's ultimate goal is to share his vision of building a supportive educational community, fostering experimentation in science, and empowering others.

James Wigglesworth

Math, Chemistry, Physics

James can take your child to the next level. With a passion for education and a love of math, James Wigglesworth has been helping students find educational insights for over 12 years. A graduate from UCLA, he currently is a full time tutor in the San Gabriel Valley. Over the years, he’s enabled hundreds of students to test better, score higher, and gain confidence by developing a strong foundation in math. Having been homeschooled himself, he has special insights into the ins and outs that come with homeschooling. He’s taught a wide variety of topics from programming to pre-algebra to advanced calculus and everything in between. It’s his desire to inspire a new generation of thinkers and problem solvers to develop a passion and love for math and programming.

Terri Reyes

History, Government, Economics

Terri grew up in San Jose, CA where she began teaching for East Side Union High School District in 2012. She began teaching for Alhambra Unified School District soon after in 2016. Terri has been in the K-12 classroom since 2008, but spent the majority of her time as a high school history teacher. She received her bachelor’s from Hawaii Pacific University (2007), credential from San Jose State University (2010), and went on to earn her master’s in Teaching Social Studies from Teachers College, Columbia University (2011). She has been supporting families through a homeschooling charter for over 3 years in addition to homeschooling her own children.

Gina Conroy

Creative Writing, Reading

Gina Conroy is a highly skilled writing instructor and author with a passion for teaching children how to unleash their writing superpowers. With over 20 years of experience attending writing conferences, writing articles for newspapers and magazines, and publishing several fiction and nonfiction books, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her craft. Gina's education includes a degree in communications and journalism, which has provided her with a solid foundation in writing and storytelling. Her dedication to teaching writing has led her to design courses for her homeschooled children, as well as teach in private schools, public schools, and homeschool co-ops.

Gina D'Elia

Art: Drawing & Painting

Gina D'Elia is an alumna of Bauder Fashion College, where she earned certificates in both Fashion Design and Interior Design. Determined to further her education, she went on to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Upon returning to California, Gina was a "Clean Up Animator" at Wong Studios in Hollywood, where she honed her artistic skills. During this time, she also made a name for herself in the Los Angeles art scene by participating in numerous successful art shows.Gina has been sharing her expertise and passion for art through private lessons to students in both homeschool and public school settings. She is well-versed in a variety of mediums and subjects, providing her students with a well-rounded education and invaluable guidance.

Alexzandra Chandler

Graphic Design, Photography

Professor Alexandra, a Master of Fine Arts graduate from Savannah College of Art & Design, has a passion for teaching others how to express themselves. Her unique teaching approach & infectious enthusiasm have been known to ignite a classroom, allowing her students to find the best outlet for their creativity in a healthy & uplifting manner. Her patience knows no bounds, & nothing brings her greater joy than seeing the smiles of accomplishment on her students' faces. Alexandra's teaching philosophy revolves around empowering her students to express themselves freely, which she believes is a crucial aspect of the creative process. Alexandra's personal interests include music, great films, & the beautiful creatures of this planet, particularly cats.

Kristin Petherbridge

Science

Kristin has been an educator for many years and taught in a variety of learning environments - from community college to homeschool co-ops and learning centers. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Truman State University and a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Baylor College of Medicine. Her experience as a homeschool parent and as an educator in the homeschool community has helped deepen her appreciation that each learner is unique - with their own passions and interests, their own level of attention and patience, and their own natural curiosities about the world around them. Kristin works to meet learners where they are and to foster their curiosities and educational growth. 

Marianne Aguilar

Math

Marianne has over 40 years of experience teaching learners of all ages and levels in many subjects. She received her degree from Charter Oak State College, and went on to gain a Masters, along with a CTE Credential in seven subject areas. She speaks Spanish, and a little Russian, bolstered by travels in regions of the world where those languages are spoken, and from the Exchange Program. She has worked with students in a variety of educational settings - traditional schools, homeschools, a privately owned tutoring clinic, and charter schools, along with individual clients over long term. Marianne has a very positive approach to every student and every subject, believing in the student and the many available tools at hand.
